Mall Call - Antony Szmierek

ANTONY SZMIEREK – NOV 28

Who says you can't tell a good story while making people dance? Certainly not Antony Szmierek. The former English teacher from Manchester combines vivid spoken-word poetry about love, chance encounters and the beauty of everyday life with euphoric house, UK garage and shimmering disco. The title of his debut EP, “Poems To Dance To”, doubled as a statement of intent. His acclaimed 2025 debut album, “Service Station at the End of the Universe”, took him to Glastonbury, sold-out tours and an appearance on Jools Holland. Released this August to widespread acclaim, its follow-up, “Decoding Birdsong”, explores luck, loneliness and the search for signs in life's smallest coincidences, without losing sight of the dancefloor. His live shows are joyful, unpredictable affairs, with Szmierek jumping into the crowd, learning people's names and sometimes finding himself as moved by the audience as they are by him. At Mall Call, expect something between a rave, a poetry reading and a conversation with an old friend.
